        D. E. Shaw Renewable Investments: Asset Management Associate, Batteries

Join our Various team in Denver

        D. E. Shaw Renewable Investments (“DESRI”) is seeking a talented and highly motivated individual to join its team as an asset management associate focused on batteries. DESRI is a market-leading owner and operator of renewable energy projects throughout the United States. We have acquired or developed approximately 10 gigawatts of contracted capacity across a portfolio of over 70 renewable energy projects in 24 states. As a member of the Asset Management team, you’ll have the opportunity to make a significant impact on the performance of your assets and the firm’s portfolio. You’ll work with a growing team of asset managers in a dynamic and agile organization, contributing to the success of renewable energy projects and the transition to a sustainable future.

        What you’ll do day-to-day

You’ll play a critical role in ensuring the effective operation of renewable energy generation assets by managing financial performance, optimizing operational efficiency, monitoring contract compliance, and handling counterparty reporting. You’ll collaborate with cross-functional teams to implement best practices; assess the financial health of renewable energy assets; coordinate with operations and maintenance teams to identify and promptly resolve any operational issues or equipment failures; and develop and implement strategies to improve asset reliability, availability, and performance. You’ll also identify timing and strategy for augmentation, conduct regular inspections and audits to ensure compliance with safety regulations and industry standards, and coordinate with local authorities to manage emergency response plan implementation and training.

        Who we’re looking for

        • A bachelor’s degree in engineering, business administration, or a related field is required. A master’s degree in any of these fields is a plus.
        • Familiarity with financial analysis, budgeting, and contract management, along with impressive analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills, is required.
        • Intellectually curious candidates with a passion for optimization and proven experience in asset management, operations, or project management within the renewable energy industry will thrive in this role.
        • Deep knowledge of renewable energy battery technologies, long-term service agreement (LTSA) structures, performance testing, augmentation strategies, industry regulations, and best practices is essential.
        • Candidates should have demonstrated knowledge of fire safety for lithium-ion technologies, including emergency response plans, hazard mitigation analyses, and codes.
        • Well-developed communication and interpersonal skills, the ability to collaborate with cross-functional teams, and experience multitasking in a fast-paced environment are preferred.
        • Quarterly travel to assigned assets, along with team and stakeholder meetings, will be required.
        • The expected annual base salary for this position is $110,000 to $130,000. Our compensation and benefits package includes variable compensation in the form of a year-end bonus, guaranteed in the first year of hire, and benefits including medical and prescription drug coverage, 401(k) contribution matching, paid time off, wellness reimbursement, family building benefits, and a charitable gift match program.
