        Join our Various team in New York

        Join our Futures team in New York. The D. E. Shaw group seeks software developers to join its Futures team. The Futures group is quantitatively driven and focuses on the trading of futures and currencies instruments. Its activities consist of high-volume, algorithmic trading. The group deals in all futures contracts that are sufficiently liquid, in about 20 currencies, and in options on futures and on currencies as well. The group engages in modeling, forecasting, and proprietary software development. It is also a major user of firmwide software such as GUAS. Technical considerations, like transaction speed, are key to its success. This role offers the opportunity to be part of an inclusive, collegial, and dynamic working environment.

        What you’ll do day-to-day

        You’ll research, build, and deploy distributed real-time systems software to support the firm’s trading and research activities. You’ll develop and utilize object-oriented design methodologies using C++, Java, and Python. You’ll build software that improves the performance, efficiency, and automation of existing trading, research, and support processes. You’ll perform mathematical and quantitative analyses, apply numerical techniques, and develop software that will analyze and develop statistical models for our computerized financial trading processes and strategies.

        Who we’re looking for

        • Candidates must have a master’s degree in computer science or a related field of study.
        • One year of experience with programming in Python, C, or C++; object-oriented programming and functional programming; writing high-performance computation software using vectorized programming; engineering distributed software in a multithreaded or multiprocessing environment; and debugging software in a UNIX environment is required.
        • The annual base salary for this position is $200,000 to $250,000. Our compensation and benefits package includes substantial variable compensation in the form of a year-end bonus, guaranteed in the first year of hire, a sign-on bonus, and benefits including medical and prescription drug coverage, 401 (k) contribution matching, wellness reimbursement, family building benefits, and a charitable gift match program.
